Mabel, my cat hasn’t come in 5 days and i can’t take it anymore. She never strays far from the garden.

If she uses a litter box indoors, put it outside on your porch. The smell will travel fairly far and let her know to come home. You can also put some things with your scent that you don’t mind losing (wear an old pair of socks for a day, for example) around the neighborhood but near your house as kind of a trail of breadcrumbs.

If you think she’s hanging around but maybe just avoiding coming home, you may need to trap her. You can buy live traps at hunting/sporting goods stores or your local animal services may have them to loan out. Cover the trip plate extending all the way to the back of the trap with cardboard. Cats are smart and will avoid the trip plate otherwise. Bait with stinky fish. I recommend canned mackerel. Cover the whole affair except the entrance to the trap with a towel so she thinks she’s going into a tunnel and not a trap. *Only use the trap in your own garden to avoid trapping any neighbors’ cats or wild critters in the neighborhood.* On your property it should be ok. Also don’t forget to check the trap at least once a day.

We have a formerly feral cat who went missing for about a week. We put our traps and everything. Then we had a big snowstorm and thought, well that’s it. She showed up meowing at the back door a few days later. Not even harmed. Cats are funny little creatures. Good luck.

So My rabbit got out and went missing for several days. We live in an area with lots of predators and I was sure something had happened to her. I ended up lighting a candle on my back deck, made a little poem to call her back and mentally sent intentions to call her back alive and well all night (occasionally repeating the poem). The next morning she was scratching at the back door, very keen to get inside.
