For me, I started to get a feel for the cards when I learned about the suits and the elements. It felt like a tangible place to start building my understanding of the tarot.
A big one was learning about the Fool’s Journey, which made understanding the Major Arcana very enjoyable and relatable. The Fool’s Journey is the story of a fool succumbing to his intuition & maybe, beginner’s luck, and the twenty odd phases he must go through ultimately leading to their success and total fullfillment (the World). It’s about taking the first step with mildness and a playful, curious heart despite knowing that there are dangers lurking about (be they relatively benign, like a small dog.) Going through mastery (or the illusion as such) technical knowedge vs. practical knowedge(intuition), nourishment & growth, benevolence, needing to defend your nuance, the art or relationships &seduction, victory, being respectful and accepting (of the honors),a stage of solitude, breaking out of rigid prior ways of life and seeking the influence of luck, finding your particular proclivity/approach to balance, a stalemate, a necessary release or change, a peaceful, hopeful experience, habit & addiction, a climax, self-forgiveness and compassion, a night, a day, a trial, ultimately learning something somewhat of human nature (the world).
