I have ran into a lot of guilt lately. Occult practitioners believing that because they hated the current economy, because they wanted to stay at home and not go to school, or to work from home, or to spend more time with their family, or any other kind of innocent wish, that they have contributed to the global pandemic.

I do not know of any wish outside of a direct wish for a pandemic that would require a global pandemic to happen. If you wanted to work from home and focused all your effort on manifesting this, you could have found a job that lets you do just that, your manifestation DID NOT include a global disaster. So leave that guilt out.

I am going to say this for everything that is turbulent. You did not cause a hurricane, a storm, the climate change, or anything else in the area. You did not contribute it. Do not let things that are completely out of your hands weigh on your soul.

Anything like this that would occur on a global level would require a heck of a lot more than the energy of just a sole practitioner

If that kind of wishing worked, every school would burn down as students hoped and prayed for the misery of algebra or conjugating verbs to end. No matter how hard any of us wished for a chance to stay home, we didn’t cause the pandemic.

I would add that if you truly believe you are responsible for mass tragedies in the world, it may be time to get a mental health checkup. I don’t mean that as an insult or with any iota of negativity but out of genuine concern. Believing you are personally responsible for a global event might just be the result of extreme misinformation or extreme hubris, but it could also be a symptom of an anxiety or psychotic disorder.

Stan Lee put it best, ‘with great power comes great responsibility.’
We were all called to craft for different reasons. Me, I love the wonder created by my magic, but what good is that if I just screw around and don’t use what I’ve learned to aid others. So while I dont take responsibility for the wrongs of the world, if I don’t at least try to help the world than I’m just as guilty as those who horde their money and don’t use it to help others.

even if one did wish for a pandemic doesnt make them responsible, like lets be serious

to actually wish something of such a large scale would require the combined energy of several people

Long time lurker and not a practitioner yet but curious about witchcraft. One of the things holding me back from really getting into it is the idea of manifesting. I’m terrified of things like the Law of Attraction because it’s been weaponized against me in the past and I struggle with intrusive thoughts. But this post is super helpful and really puts things in perspective.

I think the idea is that we collectively may have willed it into existence. And the guilt is from feeling like being part of that collective. I feel like whether or not you are a practioner a slight level of guilt might be there for those emotions even it really wasn’t our doing.

Excuse me, but I’m the next messiah, obviously.

semi-topical: What do you all do for the guilt of not doing more to make the world a better place? The guilt of not using your magic to help others, as much as possible? The guilt from when your version of “as much as possible” is very small?

Clearly I’m going through it lol

Ah! How topical for me – My Beloved insisted on watching Don’t Look Up last night. I thought I could handle it because I knew the whole plotline, but I couldn’t. I had nightmares all night and I’ve been up since 2:30am feeling deeply guilty that I didn’t to more to fight the current government I live under. Thanks for reminding me I don’t have to take on (full) responsibility for the establishment.

As a side note: A lot of people found Don’t Look Up as a funny satire. I found it devastatingly real and that is exactly what would happen if an ELE were headed toward the planet. It was a terrifying movie.

Can we however be responsible of a better outcome of things ? Like, wanting to make things better, and getting these things to get better ? (Sorry, I’m a bit new)

This same guilt goes for Reparationists within the witch community.

We do not need to ***repair*** the past and the atrocities that our ancestors committed. What we need to do is learn from their mistakes and lessons, and be better than that – move on together.
