I love this. Everyone always has this ‘your ancestors would be ashamed, all the hard work they did so you could have it easy’.

But isn’t that WHY your ancestors worked hard? So their descendants could have a better life? They’d be thrilled.

Witch ancestor isn’t burning in Heck.

Witch ancestor is burning the Patriarchy in the Great Hereafter.

    Alright family!

I’m glad to suggest a fan-fucking-tastic spooky podcast.

    [Old Gods of Appalachia](https://oldgodsofappalachia.com/)

It has a haunting vibe of dark sleeping gods, but it is also written by a very socially conscious team. Half of the protagonists are queer and they are well rounded characters in their own rights. Good and evil are established through normal human failings such as fear and avarice instead of scapegoated outgroups.

If you want to hear tales of magic, ritual, and weird creatures look no further!

This was a nice reminder for me. I’ve been feeling really awful about how unproductive I’ve been lately and it’s good to take a small step back.

    Love this!

Anyone out there willing to recommend some good podcasts?

This group has such great taste.

Here are a few of my favorites.

LeVar Burton Reads – He reads short stories and it is EXCELLENT. Trust me. [My favorite episode is this wonderful story called “Pockets”](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pockets-by-amal-el-mohtar/id1244649384?i=1000487748199)

[Gastropod Podcast](https://gastropod.com/)- Two delightful women who love food explore gastronomy through the lens of science, history, and culture.

Hidenn Djinn – [Fun and occasionally spooky folklore about Djin](https://www.grimandmild.com/thehiddendjinn)n.

[Science VS](https://gimletmedia.com/shows/science-vs) – Host, Wendy Zucherman is a first class science witch.

[Ologies](https://www.alieward.com/ologies/bryology) – Just listen to [this episode about mos](https://www.alieward.com/ologies/bryology)s with Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer!

[Supernatural](https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/supernatural-with-ashley-flowers/id1500667648) – not my favorite podcast – definitely a good podcast but not amazing. But delightfully spooky!!

We had, at one point, SIX generations alive in my family and guess what? They each thought every generation below them was lazy, self centered, materialistic, didn’t know the value of a hard days work, thought higher education was a waste of time, and thought animals were for working or eating, not petting and companionship.

Our ancestors were some tough bastards to survive life so that we could be here, but most of them were abusive, salty, uneducated, mentally ill, traumatized, illiterate, dirt poor, racist, misogynists who couldn’t hack living in our time of “political correctness and the pussification of America”. This is why I’ve never understood ancestor worship.

I really don’t know what to think about my ancestors. My parents and grandparents sadly were awful people. Really makes me wonder about the rest of them.
