Every sabbat I try to write a poem or prompt inspired by the traditions around me. Here’s one I wrote for Yule this year. I hope everyone enjoys. For inspiration I tried to consider those that don’t celebrate yule and used that to remind myself that even though they don’t follow my own tradition they still have their own beliefs to be respected just as I would like respect for mine.

As we greet the longest night

    Remember those left behind

For they do not know the olden ways

And carry on oblivious throughout their day

We carry blessings from the gods above

Of light and caring and of love

Blessings to those you love and care for

Throughout your life they’re always there

Don’t forget the rest of the world

And blessings from their own lord

As we greet the longest night

Remember those that are left behind

For they still need love and care

To carry it alone would be unfair

Joy to the world and those in it

Take all that love and spread it

As we greet the longest night

Remember those that are left behind

What an evocative poem. I’m so glad you shared it, it gave me a lot to think about this solstice. Have a peaceful Yule.
