So could the planet come through more strongly than the actual sign? So Venus in the 1st in Capricorn might come across more like Venus than like Capricorn, or Mars in Gemini might come across more like Mars than Gemini etc.

I’m a Pisces rising with Jupiter at 22° quickly followed by my moon, still in Pisces in my first house, and I have Neptune in my 10th house in Capricorn almost directly on top of my MH. I feel like I can’t get over my religious convictions enough to even take advantage of my Neptune placement. Some days I feel like I’m one with Jesus and love itself for the whole world is riding entirely on my back.

In other words, if your rising sign bleeds into your first, AND your first house has the traditional ruling planet of your rising sign in it that’s in the process of being replaced with a modern ruling planet, your life probably sucks and I can empathize with you

The planet associated with your rising sign is your chart ruler, if that helps.

planets in the first house endow the native, fully, with their energies, correspondences, and “meanings”. in other words, people “become” their first house planets. first house placements sit next to the ascendant and it’s ruler, as the best indicators of someone’s external personality. the ascendant is the helm of the ship, but first house planets are front-seat passengers giving their two-cents regardless of where the ascendant and its ruler are headed. i wouldn’t say “overpower”, however.

an aquarius rising with a 1H aquarius moon is still both of those things. but this individual’s health, body, personality/disposition, and overall energetic force put out will be lunarian or moon-like. they’ll probably have an affinity and emotional connection to community and find themselves easily retaining information/stories/people in their immediate environment. there might be an imbalance between feeling easily swayed by groups and a need for personal intellectual security.

but, back to your original point, tension between the ascendant (ruler) and first house planets can be increased through a specific aspect. for example, a libra rising and (1H) libra moon opposite a 7H aries venus. that libra moon still steers the native based on its own agenda, as first house planets are filtered through the ascendant to carry out their missions. but, it might be under stress due to a detriment-venus opposition.

Yes, only if the planet is within less than 5 degrees Conjunct ascendant! I have a planet that’s 1 degrees conjunct orb !

Depends to some degree on the dignity of the planet, how close it is to the ascendant, and if it has any aspects with it.

An exalted planet will express more than a debilitated one for example.

Also you have to look at the rest of their chart. Let’s say you know this person from work. Do they have a ton of placements in their tenth house? Someone with say mars conjunct Jupiter in the tenth, might come off as more aggressive and assertive at work than they would in other parts of their life.

In my own chart for example, I have Pluto in the fourth house. I’ve had waaaaay more Pluto issues arise at home than I have anywhere else in my life. People at my work would never guess the side of me that comes out at my home ever. Similarly my family rarely sees how I am at work.

I have the pleasure of knowing two people with Jupiter in the first house. One is a Leo Rising & the other is a Scorpio Rising. Both have expansive personalities, the ♌︎ has fewer trust issues than the ♏︎. Also ,don’t sleep on the planet that rules the first house, as, in my experience, that is actually how the person tends to show up.

I think so. I’m a sag rising with a conjunct retrograde Uranus. Normally retrogrades weaken the planets influence, but since it’s so strongly connected to my ascendant it actually amplifiers my rebelliousness. However, it’s a quiet rejection of social norms and customs. It’s more I’m very not interested in following the Life Script and I greatly value my own independence and authenticity, falling into several subcultures. However unlike a direct Uranus, I’m not as vocal nor as flamboyant about it.

I wish have retrograde Neptune conjunct Mars in Capricorn in my 1st house. So I’m a super creative, albeit practical, solutions and the method in which I attempted to achieve those dreams is very methodical, shrewd, and dare I say calculating.

On a slightly related topic, I also find 12th house signs that are conjunct with the ascendent have a much larger effect as well.

So all of the stereotype of a fun loving, philosophic, adventures Sagittarius rising is some what muddied in me. It’s still there, it’s just a less optimistic and friendly nature than one would expect

A planet on the AC can be a strong influence, but it will take on the flavors of its sign and the touchpoints to other planets in other signs by way of aspects. So I think that planets logically can’t ‘overpower’ sign.
