I know this question might seem a little ironical to post on an astrology sub. But anyway, is there a connection between superstitious thinking or “religious/spiritual” extremism and hard Neptune aspects to personal planets? Particularly Luminaries and Mercury.

I know about the possible addiction/mental illness/homelessness part, but this is something I have also noticed in charts of people who fall into extremist paths including cults or religious fanaticism. To be fair however, these charts have also had some Sun-Mercury/Uranus conjunctions quite closely aspected, so that might have had a substantial effect on the perceived “rebellious or contrarian” nature. It’s like these people feel a strong need to separate and distinguish themselves from general society, (which is fine) but even to excessive degrees.

PS. I know not all Neptune heavy people descend into madness; most of the ones I know are very open, accepting, spiritual (in the great sense) deeply empathetic and artistically gifted people. I don’t mean any disrespect to Neptune heavy individuals, most of yous are wonderful! This is just a few instances I’ve noticed, and I was wondering if anyone else has too.

I can’t speak for natal charts, but Neptune transit conjunct Venus and Mars is delusions and poor decisions galore. Ask me how I know 😅

    edit: fixed a typo

I actually listened to The Astrology Podcasts episode on Neptune just this morning and they mention that yes, Neptune in hard aspect can make a person more prone to delusions and also lying, but not necessarily. As with any placement there are many different things to look at. Take a listen to the episode! It’s on YouTube and Spotify

I have Neptune (first house) square Sun and Mercury (and MC). I definitely don’t have any extremist beliefs or religious tendencies. I was a vegetarian for three years, which I think was the most extreme thing I’ve done lol.
It mostly shows up as a lot (!) of daydreaming, but I would say I’m becoming more grounded as I get older, and I’m able to catch myself if I’m drifting away too much.

Oh hell yes, Neptune square Mars and it’s so hard. A lot of self delusions and self loathing. It has its benefits, like being spiritual and keen on worldliness, but when comes to the 3d physical reality we’re living its quite hard to deal with since has nothing to do with this world. At least that was my experience so far. Neptune blur things so much and hide them from your perception that it leaves you with the sensation of lost or missing parts.
