A piece that many people in this comment section are missing is that any planets in the house will affect the appearance of the native/ideal partner. Also look to the ruler of that house and it’s aspects/condition for more information. It’s not enough to look at the sign only.

This is really interesting and got me thinking a lot, I’m a Leo Ascendant, Aquarius Descendant. I’m not sure what physical characteristics you might expect in an aquarius but I will say that I do tend to be attracted to people who bend societal ‘rules’ or ‘norms’ with their appearance – guys with long hair, girls with short/no hair, lots of tattoos. I’ve also noticed though that I tend to model my own appearance after that too. I wonder if we can think of ascendant as our natural appearance and descendant as how we might express ourselves through adding to that appearance externally.

I don’t think ASC shows how you look (unpopular opinion)

But the DEC would have qualities you look for in a partner subconsciously. Typically someone “having your back” since your sights are pointed toward your ASC, you get the most help from someone with the opposing ASC sign to work with and get the best blend of perspectives

interesting – I’m a Capricorn rising so i guess my descendent is cancer – and i would 100% say im attracted to the round soft faces, high cheekbones and deep expressive eyes… kinda like young Cillian Murphy (not sure what his rising is) – but my Venus is in Sag

The descendant falls in the 7th house of relationship so yes it is a good indicator for who and what we find attractive. To flesh it out you’ll need to look for the ruler of the 7th house.
Example:
I’m Taurus rising, Scorpio descendant. I am attracted to intense people with striking features. I like relationships that are passionate and raw.
Mars rules scorpio. My mars is in virgo, in the fifth.
Mars in virgo type people are productive, creative, obsessive, slightly eccentric and stubborn.

from my experience looking at dsc’s ruler makes much more sense rather than on the dsc itself

e.g. Aries dsc -> Mars ruler -> Mars in Leo 11H -> preferable vibe is Leo, preferable area of life where the s/o might appear is 11H (internet celebs? friends? well known ppl? etc)

I’m a gay Scorpio Rising and I think a lot of Taurus men are really attractive. I love the clean Taurus men with nice facial hair and strong bods. Yasssss. And Taurus women are super gorgeous to me.

In my personal experience that is not the case. Scorpio is on my descendent (and Pluto conjunct my descendent) and I am find myself time and time again close to people who have Pluto or Scorpio as a dominant planet or sign in their natal chart. I don’t think any of them have the ‘Scorpio look’ but definitely are able to get down in the ‘underworld’ with me.

So while I don’t think it rules out physical appearance but I think it definitely also includes how much do they exude those characteristics as well.

For example my husband is Capricorn rising but Pluto and Mars are conjunct his MC. My close friend is also Capricorn rising but is a Scorpio moon and her moon is conjunct Pluto. Another close friend of mine is a Scorpio rising. My closer friend since childhood chart ruler is Mercury (and her sun is in Virgo). Mercury and other personal planers are in Libra ….and Venus is in Scorpio.

I perceive the Descendent as the description of our ideal partner in marriage as it sits in the 7th house. I’m Virgo rising so my Descendent is Pisces, but I have Venus in my 7th house. My husband’s chart ruler is Venus and has very Venusian qualities. Pisces descriptions are always described as having large watery eyes, and my husband does have very large blue eyes.
