Ive been drawn to and using my tarot cards for almost 10 years. I use trusted tarot to look up the meanings and I write down all the cards I pull so I can look back on them.

I feel like I’m missing a lot of points. Especially when I do large spreads. I get really confused at trying to piece together what I think the message is. I try really hard but yeah I feel like messages are slipping through the cracks.

If yall have a resource that would help please let me know!!

Edit: thanks to everyone who replied! I didnt expect to get a lot of answers so I really appreciate yall 🥺💕 I feel bad I feel like I cant think of responses to everyone so I will just say thank you, I read every comment and I learned a lot of useful tips. I hope this helps anyone who is also an autistic tarot reader too. Bb!!🤞

I think that’s because you’re trying to read the cards in the ways suggested to you. But you are autistic. Your brain works differently, and so you see things through a different lens.

Perhaps start a journal about what each card and symbol means TO YOU based on what you know of them already. Through this, you will deepen your connection to your own unique intuition and ways of thinking thay will allow you to use the cards in a way that makes sense for you.

Remember that it is not the tarot that does the work. They are keys to our own minds that we use to do the work.

78 degrees of wisdom is an indepth look at each card, but honestly I use kitchen table tarot a lot more because the information is condensed and the author writes in a relatable and familiar way. I think kitchen table tarot would be a good fit for you 🙂

Don’t be stuck on the written meanings either, if you feel like a card is telling you something else other than what the guidebook/tarot book says then go with that! It’s the beauty of tarot. I get really overwhelmed with large spreads too (ADHD here) and I decided to mostly stick with 3 card spreads – enough cards to give variety and play around with but not so many the messaged get muddled. That’s just my experience anyway 🙂

It sounds like you just need to find a deck that speaks to you more clearly. Have you tried a more “straightforward” set of cards than the RW? I find Tarot de Marseille very blunt and to the point. Little room for interpretation!

i use movies, characters, and songs to assign meaning to cards. sometimes i will pull a queen of wands and imagine a character she reminds me of, and it helps me piece together a story in my mind that way. you could try doing some associations in that way !

    Hello, fellow autistic reader here!

I’m not sure if this will help, but there’s a couple things I keep in mind as I’m reading and this may help you too!

Never feel ashamed or like you’re a fake if you have to refer back to the little booklets that help describe the cards. I do it with every reading because I can’t remember all the cards correctly *all* the time. That’s alot of cards! So it’s okay.

Everyone’s spread and technique is different, and whatever process you need to do in order to give accurate and fulfilling readings is absolutely fine. Be it using crystals as well, reading the booklet, even writing on them with little symbols.

Also, if big spreads feel a little intimidating, nothing wrong with doing smaller ones! I’ve only gone up to three card spreads (except for when more come out, then it’s a sign that there’s more to tell), and I’ve been doing that for *years*. And guess what? That’s totally validated and okay!

Sometimes I go back and look in the booklet to familiarize myself as well as listening and getting in tune with my intuition.

Being autistic is hard, and I absolutely wish you the best. ♥️

I’m autistic too and you have to learn to read intuitively. I go by the images and card by card. The message always comes together for me

You can try getting a deck with the card meanings on the card like beautiful creatures tarot.if you see the words it might be easier too string it together

Also maybe try too get a more picture oriented deck where the picture shows exactly what the cards means I think beautiful creatures kinda does that but I’m sure there’s many more.sometimes pictures make learning easier

And it’s alright too struggle sometimes don’t feel abt it your trying your best

Or you can assign a mesning you think fits best too the cards you don’t have too be exactly on point just close enough it’s similar but gives some room for interpretation

Hi, fellow autistic witch here! I suggest building a relationship with your deck going from the other way around. Ask questions that describe what you know or experienced already. Examples: how was my morning, what are my current feelings about my best friend etc

Edit: you can also try asking your deck to show you a card resonating with a set situation. For example, show me disappointment, show me hope, what is infatuation like?

A few exercises like this every time you do a spread or have a few mins to practice helps to keep you connected.

Hope I could help, let me know if you have questions.

It is ok to build your skill with simple. You don’t have to know all the meanings now. In the beginning I used cards that had the meaning on them. I took classes I read up on symbolism, and through my journey I came up with my own meanings.
Maybe just practice reading suites, or numbers. Don’t read reversals, it has only been the last year that I have decided a meaning for them, court cards too.

I also find that the more of a picture there is the better I read, I am a very visual person, but if your not, if you need a blank slate practice using playing cards.
After 15 years of reading cards I am still learning. I don’t do complicated spreads I don’t get it. My best reads come from one- 3 cards.

Some.times decks have slightly different meanings.

Here just to echo what some other commenters have said. Throw out the book and read your cards intuitively. Don’t get stressed or hung up about all the different meanings and details. Look at the pictures and go with the meaning that comes to you. If nothing comes to you then shop around for a deck that you look through and feel connected with. There are hundreds if not thousands of different tarot decks out there, find one that you connect to it and interpret it as it comes to you. Drawing a card a day or just doing 3 card spreads can also help familiarize yourself with a deck.

I’m autistic too and some of the advice here already echos how I read—smaller spreads, trusting my interpretation of a card—but there is a book I’ve found super helpful! “Tarot Affirmations: Self Fulfilling Prophecies” by Kitty Knorr is a collection of affirmations for each card, upright and reversed. I’ve found the affirmations help me to bridge the hyper-literal part of my brain with my intuition 🙂

So do you only rely on the book or do you have some card meaning memorized? For me, once I had a basic knowledge of the card meanings, then I could look at a card I pulled in relation to the question I asked and then be able to translate that into meaning. So if you aren’t there with memorizing (or that isn’t your thing at all) one of the ways to get context is to try other resources. I would look to other books (I highly recommend Theresa Reed’s Tarot No Questions asked for not only meanings but activities you can do to help you with the cards)

r/tarot may be a good resource for you. While I know the cards do have a general meaning, I feel like after some time our energy is transferred enough to the cards that we can trust our own thoughts when we see them. Think about what pulling the lovers, the 5 of pentacles/coins, the magician mean to you when you see them. Think about how the imagery makes you feel and what stands out. I think exploring how you feel with these cards may be more meaningful than having someone else tell you what they should be. I am sorry you’re struggling though and there are other forms of divination that may speak to you more clearly as well.
