Rising sign is very similar to Mars/Aries energy as it leads the house of Aries… in fact you often see people whose Mars is the same as someone else’s ascendant look or act a bit similarly. The sun is what gives you pride, the ascendant is what gives you a sense of purpose…the ascendant colors your desires and what you feel you were put on this earth to fight for. For instance many libra ascendants are very pro justice etc, and also need beautiful surroundings to feel functional and driven/strong where libra suns get real soulful ego satisfaction from feeling beautiful and creating fairness and balance. Another example is how Leo suns get pride and ego satisfaction from creative endeavors/entertaining people/fame/being well known while Leo ascendants just naturally act/feel/think they are those things but it doesn’t satisfy their ego drive or warm their heart like entertaining/creative endeavors warms the hearts of Leo suns. I would say the ascendant is more who you are and why you are here as well as what you fight for in a more detached fiery way, while the sun is what fills your heart with warmth, pride and joy
