How would somebody’s chart be impacted if there was a lack of a certain element in their chart? Are there any resources that you could point me to that could help to understand what somebody who has a lack of a particular element means in their chart and what it would signify?

In my class, my mentor posed it to me this way: say you have a friend who loves the water, is a successful marine biologist, has tons of water in their chart/no earth, and enjoys their life immensely- would you tell them to get more grounded and find a more practical path, due to their needing earth in their life? No you wouldn’t. Instead of seeing it as a lack, it can be something that makes us uniquely ourselves. He did say that we tend to attract people in our lives that balance us out, which shows connection and balance in the universe.

I have little to no earth in my chart except for a generational planet. All inner planets are fire and water and I feel imbalanced from it. Finances and physical stability have always been incredibly hard to grasp for me- I think a lack of an element in a chart can indicate areas that are uncomfortable for you but are necessary for you to master in this lifetime to achieve some sort of karmic balance. Marrying someone with an earth heavy chart has also helped me greatly with this.

It doesn’t mean anything. You could have no water signs and be highly emotional because you have moon in 1H. You could have no earth signs but be very disciplined because of mars trine Saturn. You could have no fire signs and be passionate because of sun conjunct mars.

I look at it as energy you may have to learn since you don’t have it in your chart. So a lack of the earth element may look like learning to create routines, organizing, being stable someplace in your life, so just learning to be grounded. A lack of water can symbolize learning how to express your emotions more, working on becoming more vulnerable, etc.

5 Fire, 3 Air, 2 Water, and 1 Earth generational planet.

My husband is 5 Earth, 4 Water, 1 Air, and 1 Fire.

Like the other redditors here have mentioned, I’ve always wondered if he and I connected as well as we initially did because we “completed” each other. He keeps me grounded to a home… or else I think I would have already sold my house to make more room in the finances for traveling. I, on the other hand, push him to go after his dreams despite being scared of failure.

Edit to add: both of us can be a bit fiery and emotional so we share that.

I have zero water placements in my chart and I’ve definitely felt the need to learn how to develop and incorporate that energy in my life.

It has also made me FATALLY attracted to Scorpio men, which has not been very fun lmao

I have zero air placements. My really good friend also has zero air placements and once, our other friend said that her and I speak the same language. Always thought that was interesting. Having a lack of water placements makes school and learning difficult. It causes me to not really be able to socialize with groups of people larger than just 3. I have a lot of water in my chart, I use intuition more than intellect, and rely on intuition the most.

I have no water in my chart EXCEPT for an intense placement of my cancer moon in 12H. I don’t honestly notice the absence of water in my chart because the moon is hugely influential in my daily thoughts and feelings, I’m honestly glad that it’s my only water placement otherwise I could see myself becoming unstable, personally.

The only water in my chart is 12 H Pluto Scorpio. Almost all my close loved ones are scorpios/have strong Scorpio placements.

My mentor taught me (from a Jungian perspective; she was a registered counselor and world renowned professional astrologer who’s now retired) that most people tend to overcompensate for the lack of an element. My own chart reflects this. I have very little water but am a tremendously highly sensitive, creative, intuitive, and spiritually attuned person. We also have to consider more than simply planets in signs. The 4th, 8th, and 12th houses have a natural connection to the element of water even if they are not ruled by water signs in an individual chart. I happen to have a Grand Trine in those houses. This is merely one example of many of how we can look a little deeper and find that there is always *some* connection to every element and every sign for everyone. As others have mentioned, relationships with others sometimes can help fill these spaces as well. My descendant is Cancer, though I have no planets in the sign of Cancer, and never dated anyone with major water placements BUT every serious relationship I’ve had has had a composite Cancer Sun with a strong emphasis on water placements in the composite charts. I also have a profound love of swimming and delight in water in nature, including waterfalls, rivers, lakes, oceans, and even find taking long baths to be very soothing. As in that example, there are ways to intentionally add the element into your life if desired, which is often called remediation in astrology.

My only water placement is Pluto in Scorpio. I have a lot of difficulty expressing emotions and hate opening up to people, even those I’m close with. I had a chart reading once and the astrologer noted this as well.

I think it can mean a lot of different things depending on the rest of the chart.

I’m earth and air predominant, with a 2 water personal planets and almost no fire. The way this has manifested is that almost all of the people I’m close to have at least 1 fire placement in their big 3, and usually more. My theory is that I find these people to show me how to better incorporate fire qualities- living in the moment, self expression, self confidence. When I was younger I found these qualities to be somewhat annoying (typical Virgo lol), but every year I learn to appreciate more what my fire sign friends can teach me :).

Another thing to note is that most of my 7th house is Aries and most of my 11th house is Leo. These are more “fun” houses, so the synastry with Aries and Leo placements works really well with me specifically. As always, gotta look at the entire chart to see the bigger picture.

I have no air, not even in the air houses. I struggled academically my entire life. Hard to focus.
