We get those in our windows by light ever late summer/fall. The biggest gets names Shelob and the rest are her children.

My partner and I are both afraid (but respectful) of spiders. When we moved to a plot in the middle of the woods in the butt end of nowhere, that became … a challenge. We’re determined not to spray anything more lethal than nematodes and neem oil, so the spiders have been great. We call the vast majority of them “Buddy” partially as an attempt to make them seem less scary.

Wolf spiders are all Shelob though, and they need to stay outside. There’s a gigantic Shelob who likes to sit on the front stoop every night, and she’s covered in babies so flashlights make her look like she’s covered in emeralds. It’d be pretty if I wasn’t so viscerally afraid of wolf spiders, haha. :X

There was a white house spider I found on my desk, just walking around and living her best life. I named her Barbara.

For a long while Barbara disappeared and then reappeared, or it was a whole new Barbara.

Either way I love her and I miss her when she’s gone. 🙁

    Portia!

You have to read the book called Children of Time! Also a great read in terms of fundamentally rethinking the patriarchy.

while this is a lovely image, i am saddened that the birds have died out so much that a single spider survived a tomato crop. (unless this was indoors)

I have tarantulas and my two favorite names are Phobos and Deimos, greek gods of Panic and Terror.

The other 4 are Lazlo, Nadja, Hera and Circe. :>

I’d like to put forward the name Arnold after the spider who used to guard a flower bush in my back yard
