As an adhesives scientist, I fight this battle everyday! I constantly have to choose between clothes I love and things I can afford to replace once they (inevitably) get destroyed.
Also, hot adhesives and reactive chemicals.

But where there’s a will there’s a way. I have purple hair, and glittery eyeshadow. My spatula handles are wrapped in teal and pink duct tape. And my current favorite jeans are black and silver foil.

Im all for sparkly science. I totally messed with one of our managers for wearing a black mini dress and red stilettos to a night out, apparently I’m one of the quiet ones! If only he knew.

Fucking chimney cleaners can be sparkly.

I’ll post a pic of myself at some point with glitter to prove it 😁

At work (occupational epidemiologist), I wear cat (and superhero) t-shirts, and carry a crossbody bag that looks like a Corgi’s behind. I also wear captain marvel, and ms. Marvel themed jackets. 😀

I used to work in remote wilderness ecological monitoring. We’d get flown to a mountain top somewhere and have to bushwack to our field site and back, camp overnight, and the helicopter would come pick us up the next day and move us to the next site.

The team was around 70% female. Every now and then some of us would have a “glam day” where they’d pack a dress in their backpack, put on the most ostentatious lipstick they could find, and dress up in the backcountry just for fun.

I was a CS major in college, one time for a semester, I decided I would wear the most flowery dresses/ girly stuff to class after a discussion I had with with some other friends in the field about double standards in STEM fields and clothing.
Some of my friends felt they could not wear super girly stuff without losing credibility or that if they dressed up or put make up on they would not be taken seriously. That semester I had a class in which I was the only girl and another in which I was one of 3. Still got good grades. I didn’t care what others though. I was hoping to prove a point but in the end it felt super empowering.
