GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amI adore Jarod and his sentiments, but my father had a spider crawl in his ear when he was sleeping when I was a kid and I’m forever traumatized and purge any and every spider or otherwise creepy crawlies in my bedroom. The rest of the house, I’ll leave them be unless they’re dangerous or destructive, but the room is off limits unless it’s a pretty beetle or a pollinator.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amUnfortunately, knowing and acknowledging they belong does not make spiders any less freaky to me, and more unfortunate for them, my cat also enjoys playing with and eating bugs

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amI’ve mostly lived in basement apartment so I’ve come to welcome my spider-y guests. I only ask they avoid my bed area and my dog’s crate (he’ll try to eat them) and will relocate those trespassers. I almost never see silverfish or other less useful insects because of my spiders.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amExcept for house centipedes. I don’t usually need to do anything about them though, nature takes its course in the form of my cat eating them alive.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amMaybe a bit morbid but, I like to think about this tweet more in the context of death.
It brings me great joy and comfort to know that when I die (hopefully a long time from now), that the living world is still going to be there and will continue on just fine.
All of the different creatures will still continue doing all their magical things regardless of whether or not I’m there to witness it.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amI’m friends with the spiders in my home, I will occasionally lift them into better positions – the eat bluebottles, therefore I will aid them.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amOn the other hand, lots of animals build themselves little homes! I think building yourself a nest is a large part of a human’s survival strategy, just like any other nesting/burrowing/building animal
I think the problem is that our nests are often overtly destructive to the ecosystem, as opposed to other animals

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amI have made friends with my jumping spider roommate and brighten up when I see it chilling near my aquariums. I’m pretty sure roomie is keeping the tiny flies that love my houseplants in check.
Roomies is a tough lil spider. Survived the pro carpet cleaners when they did the carpets, and when I grabbed it off my body and chucked it away in my half awake state. I hope roomie learned the importance of personal space that day.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amOk but if you saw the size of the roach that made it’s way into my kitchen the other night, you’d be ready to set the world on fire.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amWould someone be able to advise when it’s ok to take down cobwebs? I leave them up indefinitely if I can but I also need to do some dusting whenever this executive disfunction lets me go.

GuestJune 30, 2023 at 7:29 amI used to have a spider in my room that I said was paying rent but taking care of any flying bugs that came into my room. It was one of those spider that looks like a five yo drew it and I would say hi friend when I saw it.
I’m now at a new place and these new spiders are not contributing to this household.
