I find it weird that everything I see online about Pisces says they’re soft, dreamy, and sensitive when it simply isn’t true. Most of the Pisces I know are gregarious and funny with a bit of an edge, but very often with depression that they conceal from the public. I don’t understand where the stereotype came from. What do you think?

Pisces moon here. That’s a pretty accurate description of me, honestly. I’ve known other sun and lunar pisceans to have a sort of rough around the edges personality, channeling pain into humor, claiming to be unemotional or unaffected by things happening around them, etc. Ironically, people who are *actually* unaffected by these things don’t have to repeatedly state that they are. I think this in itself is a sign that a lot of these traits are largely defense mechanisms used to conceal someone who is actually very sensitive deep down.

I think a lot of us probably started off as openly kind and soft-hearted, but were taken advantage of too many times and have built up walls as a result. Personally, I don’t even take it as a compliment if anyone tells me that I’m “sweet” or “sensitive.” I either get paranoid that I’m about to be used by this person, or ashamed because I’m reminded of all the ways in which these exact traits have led to abuse, which I still blame myself for to some extent.

Thankfully, I have a ton of air in my chart, so I can just over-intellectualize and explain away anything even vaguely resembling genuine emotion and/or compassion for others, and those who don’t know me well are none the wiser 😉

It seems like the dreamy, sensitive quality can definitely be an aspect of the Pisces archetype, particular on the subconscious/psychic level. It is true that Pisces is more naturally connected to the psychic realm, however it’s worth noting that Pisces is the last sign on the zodiac wheel, meaning that, technically, Pisces contains aspects of all the previous 11 signs. This is why Pisces people tend to be enigmatic and their personalities vary so widely from person to person.

As a Pisces rising I wouldn’t describe myself as soft, I’m quite hard and cold sometimes, but I do have a big heart. I am very dreamy and zone out all the time to fantasy land. I’m also very sensitive, not in a bad way anymore though. I used to get taken advantage of a bit, but now I just use my sensitive side to feel things in a different way to others. Sensitive is often linked with weakness, but it’s not it’s strength. Sensitive people are strong because they have to be. They’ve learnt to live in a world that doesn’t appreciate them. That’s hard to deal with and takes a lot of mental energy to stay true to themselves, which yes can lead to mental health problems like depression and anxiety.

Yes I agree Pisces are often very edgy, there’s a clear shine to them though. Their edge is alluring rather than grating, which is why people are often drawn to them. I do think they are a misunderstood sign, but most signs have some sort of illusion to them, a hidden part that is lost to non natives.

I consider Pisces to be the lighter side of Scorpio, which I think could be why they get the soft, dreamy stereotype. Like the mystery reversed. But not in a way that they don’t experience the same depths of pain, but in the way they choose to be the light because they have seen the dark.

Other signs make fun/light of us not realizing that pisces are made up of all the signs.

You only know one side of those pisces. You don’t know them entirely and in depth. Pisces are very good at hiding their more sensitive and vulnerable side. Just think of pisces as the deep ocean. You only see the surface and maybe a few meters under the sea but you there’s no way you can see the bottom.

Interesting! I’ve noticed this with having a Pisces ascendant. Supposedly I should come across as dreamy and sensitive and “benevolent” I believe it says on one of my apps… but I’m not convinced I do come across as these things. I’ve been told before that I come across as calm/dreamy/out of it/ditzy/reserved, but not often.
I guess for people who already know me though, it’s hard for them to see that “first impressions” side of me once they have seen my dramatic, loud nature.

But I would agree that across the board, the people with Pisces placements I know are all very different. Perhaps being the last sign, and thus influenced by all the others, the signs other planets are in influence the Pisces placement significantly? Does Pisces act perhaps like a “mirror”, reflecting other aspects of ones personality, or aspects of others’ personalities, back out?

i’m a pisces sun & rising, and pisces are definitely soft, dreamy, and sensitive. you must not think that because you’re just not witnessing it when it happens! i feel like i bring out my soft, dreamy, and sensitive side when i’m usually alone, sometimes with people i love and trust!

I’m a Pisces Sun, Capricorn rising and Scorpio moon and first thing most people think when they see is aww, you’re so cute (mostly because I’m tiny, thanks Capricorn AC) or are intimidated, kinda scope me down kinda thing.

I definitely hold the mysterious vibe, and dissociate probably more than I should. I’m loud, out and about one second, then need a few days to recover from all of the good and bad energy, and escape from reality through something, anything. It had been alcohol and drugs for a few years (heavy use, talking two trips to rehab and isolation from everyone and everything, with nothing but drugs). I’m now going on 5 months clean, the longest I’ve went, and now I cope from the harshness of reality with showers, candles, video games…a bunch of things. 🙂

With that, I definitely went through years of depression, real bad panic attacks, and had been diagnosed with…tons of things, depression being one. I’m way better now, but that resulted in hard work and dedication to really getting better and seeing the light of things, rather than the darkness of things (Scorpio moon, mars?) as someone described here in the comments.

I’d say growing more and more into the good side of the true Piscean nature is exhausting, but well worth it. I now will admit I’m sensitive proudly. No pill or drug will fix it, so might as well face it. Accepting it and going with the flow, like a fish in the sea lol.

Ahhh, I love Pisces. As an Aquarius, with Venus in Pisces and 3 12th house planets, I get it. I get the summation of Pisces. Most to me seem spacey, or they are really funny, naïve (in the best way possible), super kind, or a mixture of all of them. I love ’em. They can be who ever you want them to be really.

I’m Pisces Moon, Midheaven and Mercury. I’m super dreamy. Daydreaming is something I do daily. I’m also very sensitive. I can easily cry and feel the empathy for others, but I can also laugh a lot too. I would call it emotional more. I can be soft sometimes, but I also be high of energy sometimes. I’m Aries Sun and Venus after all.

I feel that the Pisces description is accurate, but sometimes depending of people’s other signs, it can make them have other traits that doesn’t seem Pisces at all.

Just my opinion, but Pisces being made up of bits and pieces of all the zodiac, I find the house it falls in is more important than the sign itself. Pisces is adaptable, and likely to channel the house without the disruption a fixed sign might encounter that may bring more of it’s nature to the houses expression. Fish go with the flow. The bull pushes everything out of its way.

Again, real astrologers wouldn’t generalize stuff. It is OKAY to have both types. ASPECTS play a huge role, PLANETS AND HOUSES PLAY A HUGE role.

I have a Pisces midheaven. I love it. It’s blessed me with psychic ability, artistic ability, and at work I come across as soft and dreamy. However this can be bad since manipulative people will zero in on me. So I am reading about boundary setting, and how to say no.

I’ve reas Pisces described as a Cadbury egg that is hard to crack. A hardshell and gooey soft inside. Or at least how my friends have described me. Pisces that I think embody your two descriptions are Drew Barrymore, as the soft, dreamy and sensitive one. And Rihanna as the gregarious one with a bit of an edge.

I think for Pisces suns at least, because they have a 1 in 3 chance of being an Aries Mercury and a 1 in 5 chance of being an Aries Venus, that can contribute a lot to having an edge. I have def met a mix of the soft Pisces and the edgy ones!
