Honestly impressed that many Republicans voted for it. Kinda neat for gay marriage to be a wedge issue for Republicans finally.

Someone made a map showing how each representative voted, and surprisingly all of the Utah Republicans voted Yes.

Any other queers worried about the lack addressing the anti sodomy laws Clarence said they’re aiming to make constitutional again? Just because marriage may be law doesn’t mean they won’t still lock us up for presumed gay sex.

Nice to know that another Bill that is enshrining human rights will languish and die in the senate.

It passed in the House by a huge margin! Like 267-157 I think. Which is amazing on its own.
Now it has to get through Senate with a super majority. so it needs 60 votes. So pray that 9 Republicans are kind okay with gay people and that West Virginia Coal is also okay with gay people.

Now to get it passed in the Senate. The Supreme Court has proven unreliable so more than a dozen states would ban gay marriage if the court case gets overturned

Can someone ELI5 why this wasn’t done with abortion rights? I know Biden made some promise nearer the beginning of his term to codify Roe – wanting to know if there was more at play beyond just foot-dragging and sheer incompetence.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone in Congress pushing to protect interracial marriage, too? Or do they know that *that’s* the line that Thomas will stop at because he knows that *this* right being taken away would actually directly affect him?

I just… can’t possibly feel positively about something that should have been a thing decades ago when so many of our rights are being currently threatened. The bar is on the fucking ground for the people we put in control of our lives if this is what victory looks like.
