I recently “interviewed” for a guest spot in another town (I’m a tattooer).

The rates and everything sounded good but in getting to know the owner he kept making more and more derisive comments about “those new shops full of new tattooers, you know the ones, they’re all female, all gay, all woo woo spiritual. They think they can completely disregard the way tattooing has always worked.”

I was all like “oh, like which shops?”πŸ€”
Needless to say I’ve already contacted those other shops, it’s a good sign when the old timers are talking shit about you.

*Edit* For all those asking how to find witchy shops, I wish I could help more, I’ve been in the industry for a decade and I still just Google and read artist bios to try to find places.

For those asking how to work with me, as per the subreddit rules I won’t be promoting myself here, thanks for your interest and support though ❀️❀️❀️

I haven’t been tattooed in a few years and I recently made the decision to only go to artists who are NOT men for future tattoos. Beyond just being more comfortable with women and nonbinary folks, I do not want any more of my money supporting men in a male-dominated industry. I specifically want to ensure that my money is going to ‘all female, all gay’ shops.

I’m so so sick of men thinking their opinions are equal to objective knowledge.

I would desperately love a shop that promotes spicy psychology and woo woo spiritual stuff while being packed with queer, femme, and fabulous artists

I just found one in the Kansas City area if anyone happens to need one near there.

My youngest daughter shadowed a local tattoo artist. He wanted to know why. She told him, β€œTHIS is where art is made.” Made his day!

Got my only tattoo so far by a spiritual woo woo woman at a shop in old San Juan and I love it.

My ex girlfriend and her sister just started up their own shop recently and it’s all-female, witchy and just all around wonderful. Got my Leviathan Cross done there, it was great.

I always love how on the one hand, grizzled old tattoo dudes love to talk about how “rebellious” tattoos are supposed to be, but when confronted with any change to style, social acceptance, or populations getting or making tattoos, they go all to pieces about how it’s not “traditional.” Make up your minds.

If he had said that woo-woo spiritual thing in front of me, I would have been like you know what, Blessed Be. I don’t want to bring on Bad Karma so I’m just going to say that and then I would have walked away from him.
