    Hello lovely tarot people!
I just bought the unofficial Office tarot deck and am pleasantly surprised by how well thought out the cards are. They read quite intuitively if you ve seen the show.

Do you have any decks based on popular media you like? Or are these just a cash grab?

I admit I only have one and that’s the Stranger Things one because I could not resist. I think when they’re done well, the characters/associations from the show/movie really add a new level of depth to interpretation.

My Game of Thrones deck is gorgeous, but feels like it was made by someone who read episode guides instead of actually watching the show (or reading the books either).

I just inherited a Hobbit deck from my mom (dementia not death) and its fantastic from both standpoints of being a Tolkien stan and a reader. It is based on the book though … came out before the movies.

Very curious about a Harry Potter deck … haven’t purchased yet but I look at it often. A Star Wars deck would also be rad to me.

The Godfather deck is actually impressive.

Some of my best readings have been from my Game of Thrones deck. It is a favorite.

I think a lot of decks *are* cash grabs – especially the pip decks – but we have two questions here: one is the execution (which often could be better) and the other is the question of where tarot archetypes and media overlap, and that’s far more interesting IMHO.

If we assume that the 78 of Tarot can describe most situations in our lives (though I would not say ‘all’) then it should be mappable to most situations in the a reasonably well-written story. I think that mapping the Tarot to an existing story is a legitimate way of opening up the Tarot for people who already know that story. So if you’re well-versed in Alice in Wonderland or Golden Girls or Buffy, you’ll find it easier to translate those cards into universal experiences, whereas you might struggle with, say, the Star card by itself. As such, I do not see ‘media decks’ as so different from other themed decks: if you tell the story of the Tarot through Fairy tales or mermaids or cats, why not tell it through books and films? How different IS ‘generic unicorns’ from ‘a specific unicorn’ (Tarotuber Lisa Papez is creating a storied deck at the moment) from ‘the last unicorn’ ?

I don’t know if this counts but I’m probably going to buy the Wisdom of Pooh deck.

I have a great Supernatural deck, but it’s from Russia and has major arcana only. I’m not as impressed with the commercially available Supernatural deck.

My two fave theme decks are The Wizard of Oz (based on the book series), and Jane Austen. They are very detailed in both major and minor arcana.

I personally think they’re garish but I also cannot be trusted: I have the Last Unicorn deck and not one, but two Sailor Moon decks. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I have the supernatural deck but I haven’t used it. I always saw them as a bit of a novelty but if you’re having good results then I might give them a try

There’s a dragon age tarot deck I would like. I haven’t got it yet so I can’t speak on how it works but if you vibe with it then why not

If it works for you, it works for you. I would never judge. Also, they might be the only decks that some people have access to.

Not TV or movie, but video game. I have the skyrim and fallout decks. I haven’t done a lot of readings yet, but choices made for the cards is pretty spot on.

Meh. To each their own, but it feels so out of line with spirituality for me.
