    Hello lovely tarot people!
I just bought the unofficial Office tarot deck and am pleasantly surprised by how well thought out the cards are. They read quite intuitively if you ve seen the show.

Do you have any decks based on popular media you like? Or are these just a cash grab?

I got the Supernatural one but couldn’t connect with it at all. Definitely a novelty one for me, but just like all decks, it may not be for me but someone else may find it useful.

I’m not opposed to a pop culture deck, I feel like it really depends on how much thought was put into the imagery. Looking at the cards I can see online, I think they did a good job picking which characters to use for which cards (and actually, connecting the archetypes in tarot to a well known character may be really helpful for beginners), it retains the Rider Waite tableaus enough that it’s clear from the imagery which card I’m looking at, and I like that the faces are expressive.

This strikes me as a deck that would be pretty easy to read with, rather than simply a collectors item for fans of a show.

I didn’t read every comment, but a ways down, and didn’t see anyone get explicitly into this, so I will for the benefit of anyone who doesn’t implicitly get it yet:

Modern Decks, including ones based on shows and movies, make sense from a Jungian perspective. Which, quite frankly, aligns reasonably well with a lot of older ways of seeing. They are modern mythos. In fact, most of us are more steeped in these myths than in ancient ones.

It really is a matter of how well they’re done.
Improperly done is Cultural Appropriation, usually mostly driven by ego and consumerism.
Well done is Cultural Appreciation and Cultural Advancement, done with respect from the heart and ample learning, for the advancement of both practitioners and the practice itself.

Personally, I think they’re cheesy/tacky and I wouldn’t ever get one. But I do appreciate that people have different tastes and there’s something to enjoy for everyone!

Disgusting consumer-capitalist attempt to make money off our spirituality. Especially the Disney ones. I’m all for independent artist doing tarot knock offs for a franchise they like or whatever, but big corporations doing it rubs me the wrong way.

If the show or film has some special meaning to you, then I’m all for it. I use my Symbolism messages can be found anywhere if we are tuned into it. Love your candle holder btw.
