I thought I would make a post where we can respectfully discuss our witchcraft pet-peeves. please do not disrespect anyones culture, religion, or spiritual beliefs. For example, don’t respond with “I hate when witches do \_\_\_\_\_ spells!”. Be kind and try to keep things light hearted.

    some of my witchcraft pet-peeves:

    1. when people spell altar as alter
    2. when people water down my beliefs and practices to me just being “witchy”
    3. when people call me a “baby witch”
    4. the phrase “do people *still* believe in Greek gods???”

    what are yours?

” I just became a witch. How do I do spells?”

This demonstrates a total lack of knowledge about the craft and an immaturity that you “joined” for the cool factor (or to offend others).

Nazis and white supremacists. Maybe more than a pet peeve.
I’m Norse pagan and they are ruining and coopting my faith for their hate. I have to practice behind closed doors.

People who call me out because I was raised VERY Roman Catholic and now practice folk/kitchen/green magic. I don’t attend church but I have kept some of my Catholic traditions so they tell me I can’t be Catholic and practice. It bothers me to no end.

witches who say that people who dont believe that herbs have spirits are wrong, like witchcraft for certain people is symbolic and not everyone believes everything has a spirit

I’ve had a lot of comments about my craft coming from my atheist friend that were just completely disrespectful!! Even tho I don’t say anything about him not having beliefs

People calling me sister is a pet peeve of mine. It makes me really uncomfortable, especially when it’s coming from complete strangers online.

oh gods yeah the altar/alter thing is so annoying. I’m so used to seeing “alter” everywhere that when I see the correct word I feel like it looks wrong.

“I saw crows outside today what does it mean?”

“I did a cord cutting ritual and the cord burned weird what does it mean?”

“I did an egg cleanse can someone read it?”

“I stepped on a bug and now the gods hate me? They are rejecting me?”

“I did a spell and the candle melted what does it mean?”

“I have been seeing spiders everywhere does this mean Loki is calling to me?”

Oh! Going to occult stores and seeing all the fetishization of various cultures including my own. When I bring my native family members along they always give me a huge side-eye about the baskets of sage and palo santo being sold like it’s a witch thing that white witches invented, knowing that they’re gonna be buying it like it’s an exotic magical ingredient not knowing the traditions or anything, and then all those super cringey “totem” decks and “native american spirit animal magic” books…. makes me embarassed to be a witch honestly.

I hate the phrase baby witch so much. It’s one thing to be new to the craft. It’s another thing to use labels and subsequently infantilize the person who is learning

My pet peeve as a demonolatry practitioner is that people assume demons are just genies that can give them mansions in exchange for a few drops off blood. Also people assuming just because someone practices demonolatry they hate Christianity or other abrahamic faiths. Just ignorance

Witchcraft=Wicca. I get ‘blessed be’ every once in a while when people see my necklace or get asked what I’m doing for the next Holliday when none of that is my thing

Closed-minded people trying to tell other people how to be more open minded to their specific brand of beliefs.

We’re a culture full of hypocrites and idiots now it seems.

A focus on ticking off checkboxes instead of actual practice.

Intentions and focus which are imprecise. My own practice requires precision, “something kinda bad” lacks precision.

A jump directly to curses. When you consider your goal, it’s rarely necessary to go negative to achieve those goals.

people who shame other practitioners for not doing deity work. and calling everyone who doesn’t do any type of deity work or deity worship “baby” witches.

When I have a very obvious altar (mine are huge and decorative) and someone puts something on it. I’ve had a beer can at a house party, hairties or Bobby pins, my husband’s earplugs, a dirty sock, some odd piece of trash.

    Just. Don’t.

    So fucking disrespectful dude
