I thought I would make a post where we can respectfully discuss our witchcraft pet-peeves. please do not disrespect anyones culture, religion, or spiritual beliefs. For example, don’t respond with “I hate when witches do \_\_\_\_\_ spells!”. Be kind and try to keep things light hearted.

    some of my witchcraft pet-peeves:

    1. when people spell altar as alter
    2. when people water down my beliefs and practices to me just being “witchy”
    3. when people call me a “baby witch”
    4. the phrase “do people *still* believe in Greek gods???”

    what are yours?

Saying “muggle” and other Harry Potter references. I can’t ever read it again.

My biggest gripe about the community as a whole has got to be “over-specialization”.

I was talking to a young witch at Books -A-Million a few weeks ago who (only does candle magic) and has no interest in anything else. She had no interest in elemental magic, color magic, or anything else. She just lights “fire” to a candle of the specific “color” to get what she wants.

Being conversational me, I pointed out that she was also using elemental magic and color magic at the same time, and she got pissed!

    Specialization is for insects.

Mine might be an unpopular pet peeve; the hypocrisy surrounding buying items for witchcraft.

When witches disparage small businesses that supply witchcraft/occult/metaphysical supplies, especially if they throw out the “there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism”, and then go and buy their stuff at the dollar store or Hobby Lobby. Don’t look down on people who are part of the community and sneer at them for “exchanging silver for goods” and then feed the purses of multinational corporations who are feeding into the over commercialization of magic-related practices (doubly so for Hobby Lobby who’s part of the Christian far-right). If you don’t want to/can’t afford to buy stuff specifically for your practice, then just don’t buy stuff. There are lots of ways to reuse things in a Craft perspective. But don’t pretend that you’re being all moral about capitalism being evil when you buy from huge companies who don’t care about the community or the planet.

And if you don’t buy anything ever for your Craft, don’t look down on and talk shit about people who do. Everyone does their practice in a different way. If someone has the means and the desire to support their local metaphysical supply store, don’t turn that into a moral failing on their part. Not everyone has the time to make every single thing themselves.

Non-ethically sourced materials as components to spells. Too many sellers source sacred plants and other from dubious companies with no ties to the peoples who hold them sacred.

    1. “Is this a sign?!”
    2. “If you see this general ass collective message then it was meant for you specifically!”
    3. “Can you tell me everything you know so I can just copy you instead of putting any effort into anything?”

    😑

When people don’t believe you can be witchy and scientifically-minded.

When people equate witchcraft with Satanism.

When people try to impose their rules on my practice.

When newbie witches go around telling people that they are a witch just for shock value. I mean, they can do what they want, but I still might roll my eyes at this.
