I’ve heard many people say that lunar eclipse energy is chaotic and you should not cast during the eclipse. I don’t understand why the lunar eclipse energy is considered a chaotic energy. Where does this belief come from? Why do so many people consider this a time where spells should not be cast?

    Thank you in advance!

People like to be dramatic about everything. If you want to perform spells for the eclipse, then do it. Don’t rely on social media to tell you what you can and can’t do with your pracrice.

In many cultures, eclipses are seen as amplifying energy because the female moon and the male sun come together, instead of you just working with the energy of one. If this is “chaotic” I think comes down to personal belief. I think this is a great time to perform spells, particularly ones that have to do with letting go of things that no longer serve you.

I dont know where I gathered this but: i gathered that this full moon and later, eclipse was a specifically great time to cast spells and rituals of letting go or cutting ties with things that no longer served you to become the best version of yourself.
Maybe a ritual or spell to quit smoking or drinking, or a ritual or spell to help heal the intense headaches you get. or a ritual or spell to help cut off a toxic person in your life.
I personally will be doing rituals because I personally think its an incredibly beautiful, and magic thing to behold.

To me the Eclipse is a compressed moon cycle in the matter of a few hours…so it encompasses waning, dark, new, waxing and back to full moon in a very short time period. Is that chaotic? I suppose so. But definitely workable!!

This theory is related to your natal chart in astrology — eclipse season activates the nodes which are aligned with destiny. As a result, Eclipses mark endings and beginnings that are fated.

They are regarded as chaotic because you have no control over the results they may produce. That is why manifesting and spellwork is ill-advised during eclipse season — you are working against the energy and not with it, with no control over the results.

That being said, some people love working with eclipse energy. To each their own.

I see it as chaotic but not in a negative way. Chaos is as beautiful as order. I certainly don’t think you shouldn’t cast spells etc during one. Personally I will be casting curses tonight as to me it represents the grounding of earth stabilising and revealing the negative side of emotions that need to be addressed. Which is why my curses will be centered around assault victims getting justice, binding abusers, and calling on Gods and Goddesses to bring their wrath and judgment upon those who dare trample on the liberty of others.

Its a thing that started on tiktok a couple years ago. They were spreading the idea that eclipses are dangerous, chaotic energy that will ruin your spellwork or worse.

Before tiktok, most traditions have seen eclipses as a special time to do important work.

The energy of the blood moon lunar eclipse is transformational. It’s fine to do spells during this time, it’s just considered chaotic energy due to the darkness which can bring out our shadow selves. That’s why a lot of people like to do shadow and healing practices during this time.
Are we allow to post links? An article about it.

I don’t personally agree, I find so much comfort and peace in eclipses. People can be such worry-warts. Retrograde this, chaotic energy that. It’s beautiful, and wonderful that I am on this earth and have the ability to watch the moon during an eclipse at all. I don’t need my practice to constantly be watching out for evil and chaotic energies. I let the good come in.

In Hinduism, which I practice as well as witchcraft, an eclipse is seen as an inauspicious time for anything but deep spiritual practices, because the power of the sun or moon is literally eclipsed, in shadow. It’s the same reasoning as why you put energy towards fulfillment during the full moon, or beginnings at the new moon. It also depends on what’s going on astrologically. I don’t think Hinduism is the only culture with reservations about eclipses? I’ve never heard of it creating chaos, though. Just not to start anything new, travel, and so forth, during an eclipse.

Some magical orders (Golden Dawn for one) both advocate and warn against certain workings during an eclipse. It’s worth looking into if it’s of interest but the reading can be quite dense. Don’t put much stock in TikTok. Seek out and read legitimate source material. That said, we low-magick types dig a good eclipse. Go forth and spell!

A lunar eclipse is only seen as chaotic because the moon and sun energy is overlapping each other giving way to your shadow self more than anything it’s the best time to use transformational spells or to un attach yourself from negative people/past. Personally tonight during the blood moon I am doing a cord cutting spell with my ex who is obsessed with me. I also doing a transformation spell to start healing my internal trauma that I haven’t been able to release. It’s a great time for manifesting too my suggestion for any new witch is to journal what you intend for yourself for the next couple months like new job, more money, etc, fold it away from you and kiss the outside leave it outside with rose quartz and emerald till the blood moon is over.

I for one will probably do more spells during this time, if i remember. A little “chaotic” magik might be what my spell needs.

I’ve never heard that one before. Did you happen to hear this on tiktok?

I couldn’t even find anything with a google search so I have no idea where it’s coming from.

If you’re seeing it on social media, people like to be dramatic and claim ridiculous stuff. They like to say don’t do this and don’t do that. I say do whatever you want.

It’s my belief that it’s more powerful, will amplify spell work or ritual work more so than if not doing it under an eclipsed moon.

Everyone has different beliefs though. As I’m sure you can imagine. Though like I said I’ve never heard that.
